Walkington is located at the gateway to the Yorkshire Wolds immortalised in the paintings of David Hockney, and there is even a David Hockney trail for keen walkers keen to immerse themselves in scenes from some of his famous paintings.

It’s just a five-minute drive to bustling Beverley with its bar and café culture and range of independent shops and markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays featuring an array of food and craft stalls.

Hull, too, is a 20-minute drive away, for those looking for a wider selection of shops and nights out in the trendy Humber Street and waterfront area, with its high-end restaurants, bars and even a gin distillery where you can enjoy sampling the produce.

The village of Skidby, where our Woodhill Cottages and Kate’s Cottage are located, features the Grade II listed, working Skidby Windmill, where you can discover their large store of agricultural paraphernalia in the Agriculture Gallery. There is also a children's play park and The Sails cafe is perfect for a coffee. The nearby Millhouse Restaurant offers delicious meals and boasts a rooftop lounge to enjoy an afternoon tea.

The town of Cottingham, just a short drive away, is also home to a weekly market on Thursdays, where you can buy fresh food, locally made goods and explore the beautiful village shops, pubs and cafes while you are there.

The beautiful city of York, just a stone’s throw from our Slingsby cottage and within easy reach of all our properties, boasts a wealth of attractions, from its historic Minster to the iconic York Railway Museum and Jorvik Centre. Opportunities to eat and drink delicious fayre from a wide variety of cuisines abound, from the historic and allegedly haunted Golden Fleece pub to the popular Brew York brewery with its range of creative flavours.

The North Yorkshire Moors and eastern coastline are also within easy reach of all our properties, with beautiful beaches like Mappleton, Fraisthorpe, Bridlington and Hornsea or, a little bit further afield, Filey, Scarborough and Whitby.

There’s also lots to see and do for nature lovers, from Hull’s world-renowned The Deep visitor centre to the Spurn Point nature reserve and the Bempton Cliffs RSPB centre, where you might even be lucky enough to spot the visiting puffins in the right season, as well as a range of other nesting seabirds.

If you love fishing, Folly Lake is just yards away from our Woodhill venues, at Risby, and features great day fishing as well as picturesque walking routes and a café serving a range of delicious snacks and drinks.

When it comes to the arts, Beverley has its own charitable community theatre, called East Riding Theatre, set up by TV and film actors Richard Avery and Vince Regan, which features a range of new writing. In the city, there is the renowned Hull Truck and Hull New Theatre features travelling West End Shows. Not to mention the Ferens Art Gallery in the city which houses a range of popular works, and a lovely café for refreshments. Museums include the Hull Streetlife Museum and Wilberforce House, former home to Hull-born former MP who successfully fought for the abolition of slavery.

And if it’s a break from it all you’re after, and you want to give your car a rest while you’re here, all our properties have a range of bridle paths and cycle ways just yards from their front doors, whenever you feel like getting a little fresh air.
